13 Wickedly, Delicious Cocktails to Try This Halloween

Spooky season has officially begun, and we all know there’s never a wrong time for cocktails. We’ve got 13 delicious, BOO-zy drinks you’ll enjoy. 

Halloween may remind us of pumpkins, spider webs, skeleton bones, and, my favourite—costume parties! In that spirit, trick or treating is happening soon and playing dress up is always thrilling. Plus, free candy is always great! We’re also down telling ghost stories, snuggling up on some beanbags, or throwing a pile of cushions onto the floor with a spooktacular drink in hand.

So, I’ll be ‘cheersing’ you on from my living room in Kelowna—here’s to 13 scary-good Halloween drinks to sip on this season. Whichever you pick, you’re in for a treat!

1. Pumpkin Pie Punch

The fall season is all about cozy sweaters, family game nights with candy prizes, visiting an apple orchard in Okanagan, and more! Maybe you’re one of the many people who love tasting all the different things they decide to add pumpkin spice to this time of year; we jumped on the bandwagon and are selling Pumpkin Spice Drink Bombs!

This Pumpkin Pie Punch looks creepy, but we guarantee it won’t disappoint! Check out the recipe here:

64 oz. Apple Cider
1 15 oz. can Pumpkin
12 oz. Cream Soda
1 tsp. Pumpkin Pie Spice
1 cup Everclear 
Whipped Cream (for garnish)

In a large pitcher, stir together the cider and pumpkin. Use a large whisk and stir until fully combined. Stir in the cream soda, pumpkin pie spice, and Everclear. Add apple slices into a pitcher and keep in the fridge until ready to serve. Serve cold topped with whipped cream or cool whip.

2. Vampire’s Kiss Martini

Can’t wait for happy hour? Shake it up this Halloween with a vampire-inspired cocktail! The cocktail’s vivid colour is dramatically beautiful and doesn’t need a garnish—but feel free to add whatever you like. We’d like to garnish the rim with red sugar for a wow factor! Try this recipe:

¾ oz. Raspberry Liqueur
Red Sugar, for rimming
1 ½ oz. Vodka
1 ½ oz. Sparkling Wine

Chill a martini or cocktail glass. Pour the raspberry liqueur and vodka into a cocktail shaker and add a handful of ice and the raspberries. Dip the rim of your chilled glass into cold water, then into the red sugar. Fine-strain the cocktail into your prepared glass and top with the champagne.

3. Eyeball Halloween Punch

This cocktail fits the bill for a spooky Halloween-themed food fest. It’s easy and visually fun! Create creepy lychee eyeball garnishes to skewer and rest on the rim. If you fancy it booze-free, simply leave out the gin or vodka or replace it with a non-alcoholic spirit. Here are the ingredients: 

30 oz. Canned Lychees in Syrup
1 cup Blackberries or Blueberries
4 cups Cherry Juice
1 cup Orange Juice
60 oz. Sparkling Water
3 cups Ice
Gin or Vodka to taste

Wash the fruits and collect the juice from lychees. Put a blueberry or grape into each lychee and put the lychees on wooden skewers. Pour the lychee juice and currant nectar into a punch bowl and chill. Pour well chilled sparkling water into glasses, add punch to fill to the top and serve with lychee skewers and thick straws.

4. Bloody Mary

Nothing spells Halloween like the word ‘bloody’! The unimpeachable quality makes this cocktail a universal favourite, arguably the perfect beverage you’ll want to drink all year. Top the spicy, flavorful combination with a salad-like medley of garnishes—and voilà! You get a cocktail and snack in one red package! Here’s what you need:

2 oz. Tequila
4 oz. Tomato Juice
½ oz. Lemon Juice, freshly squeezed
½ tbsp. Prepared Horseradish, to taste
4 dashes Worcestershire Sauce
2 dashes Tabasco Sauce
2 dashes Tapatio Hot Sauce
1 pinch Celery Salt
1 pinch Ground Black Pepper
Garnishes: Lime & Lemon Wedges, Cucumber Spear, Sweet Pepper & Jalapeno Slices, Bacon, as desired

Dim the rim of each glass with celery salt until well-coated. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add all ingredients. Shake vigorously for 15 seconds, then pour into glass with more ice. Assemble garnishes on a skewer and serve any way you’d like. Enjoy it cold!

5. Witches Brew

A secret potion? Get into the Halloween mood with this fun, delicious liquor brew! While the preparation is simple, the eerie feel from the dry ice will be sure to leave an impression. It’s like a magic smoke that wisps into the air! What you’ll need:

⅓ tsp. Matcha Powder
36 oz. Cream Soda
12 oz. Vodka
Dry Ice

In a large bowl, whisk all ingredients until the matcha powder is well incorporated. Transfer the drink to a pitcher, punch bowl, or glasses. Add 1 1” cube of dry ice per glass, and serve your spooky beverage.

6. Black Magic Margaritas

Who said Halloween fun was just for kids? Whether you’re having a gathering with friends or just planning a cozy tipple by the fire, this margarita—with a twist, bursting with fruity flavours, will set the tone for a spooky holiday! Don’t forget the black sanding sugar for the glass rim; we seriously recommend it!

Here’s the list to what you need to make the best margarita possible:

2 tbsps. Black Sanding Sugar
2 cups Ice
4 oz. Silver Tequila
2 oz. Triple Sec
4 oz. Lime Juice
Black Food Coloring
Lime Slices, for garnish

Rim two glasses with a lime slice and dip in black sanding sugar. Divide tequila, triple sec, and lime juice between two glasses and stir to combine. Add food coloring until desired black color is achieved. Add ice and garnish with a slice of lime before serving.

7. Creepy Cocoa Gin & Lychee Cocktail

Spookify your next adults-only-Halloween get together with this unique concoction of cacao gin and lashings of lychee. You don’t necessarily need a bartender to create this luscious blend—but we can say it looks dreamy! So if you’re up for a bottomless holiday party, keep the drinks coming, and your guests won’t know what hit them.

2 oz. Cacao Gin
½ oz. Lychee Liqueur
A splash of Lychee Syrup
A splash of Lemon Juice
1 oz. Lychee Juice
A dash of Grenadine
1 Lychee Fruit, for garnish

Pour the Cocoa Gin, the Lychee liqueur, syrup, juice and the lemon juice into a cocktail shaker. Shake and double strain to a Champagne Coupe glass. Add the dash of grenadine. To garnish, slice into the Lychee in order to hook it on the edge of the glass. Pop a blueberry in the middle of the Lychee.

8. Poison Apple Cocktail

Celebrate all things spooky with a Halloween cocktail that only requires three ingredients plus a little ice and a little mixology exercise. 

We know it’s a devilish drink and a new way to enjoy vodka, a popular diverse spirit. So dazzle your guests with a bewitching martini by adding a little dry ice to get an instant spellbinding effect. The ingredients are:

2 tbsps. Black Sanding Sugar
1 ½ oz. Vodka
¾ oz. Sour Apple Schnapp Liqueur
¾  oz. Sour Apple Mixer
Ice for shaking

Put all the ingredients into a shaker with ice. Rim the martini glass with black sanding sugar. Shake and pour into the glass. Enjoy!

9. Halloween Jungle Juice Punch

Yes, it’s all in the presentation! We’ve seen some Halloween drinks in rich colours like purple, red or green. Some are adorned with creepy garnishes like brains, eyeballs, and other body parts. There’s no better way to add a bit of horror to this juice punch than plastic spiders or bugs. You may skip the vodka or tequila for a tasty mocktail! 

Get the ingredients:

24 oz. Vodka
24 oz. Tequila
8 oz. Sprite or Soda Water
16 oz. Guava Juice
12 oz. Lemonade
16 oz. Orange Juice
Orange & Lemon Slices
Lemons & Oranges, for garnish
Non-Edible Spiders or Bugs

Place fruit in the container of choice, add the liquor and stir. Set in the fridge for 20 minutes.

Add the juices and sprite, and gently stir. Set in the refrigerator overnight. Serve with lemons and oranges as garnish and non-edible spiders or bugs.

10. Black Widow Cocktail

Looking for something dark and mysterious this Halloween? This cocktail is a winner for the occasion, and the name makes it an excellent fit for your spooky event. Not so simple and not so creepy, but the homemade blackberry-lime syrup will surely win your guests over! Try our low-carb version:

Blackberry-Lime Syrup:

1 lb. Fresh or Frozen Blackberries
2 oz. Lime Juice
8 oz. Water
5 tbsps. Powdered Erythritol or Swerve 

For Each Cocktail:

3 oz. Homemade Blackberry Juice
2 oz. Vodka
Ice

In a saucepan, bring the blackberries, lime juice and water to boil over a medium heat. Boil for 3-5 minutes. Once softened, mash the blackberries using a fork and pour through a fine mesh sieve. Add the powdered Erythritol and mix into the blackberry syrup until combined. Let it cool and refrigerate until ready. In a glass, add the sweetened blackberry juice, vodka and garnish with fresh blackberries or mint leaves and serve.

11. Blood and Sand

Care for a bit of trivia? Blood & Sand was invented in London, and named after a movie released in 1922. 

Everyone will enjoy this tasty concoction of Scotch whiskey, sweet vermouth and cherry liqueur, while the garnishes make it as inviting to drink as it is to look at. We bet you won’t think twice about ordering this from a bar in Vancouver or Kelowna. 

¾ oz. Speyside Single Malt
¾ oz. Dolin Sweet Vermouth
¾ oz. Fresh Orange Juice
¾ oz. Heering Cherry Liqueur
Grapefruit Slices
Black Olives

Pour all ingredients into your cocktail shaker and add about a cup and half of ice. Cut the blood orange in half and measure .75 ounces. Shake ingredients together with ice, pour into a coupe style glass and add garnishes.

12. Haunted Graveyard Cocktail

Treat your guests to a bourbon-based Halloween cocktail. With hints of maple—which grows abundantly in British Columbia and orange, the distinct taste is as pleasant as can be with its smoking rosemary accent.

This uncanny-named cocktail is an autumnal recipe for those who can’t get enough of fall flavours. It’s the real deal!

4 oz. Bourbon
2.5 oz. Maple Syrup
Orange Slices
6 splashes of Angostura  Bitters
1 Rosemary Sprig
1 cup of Large Ice Cubes

Pour the bourbon and maple syrup into a cocktail shaker. Add the ice, orange slices, bitters and sprig of rosemary and shake well. Add the ice to a short whisky glass and strain over the prepared cocktail. Garnish with a fresh stem of rosemary and use a kitchen blow torch or long match to set it on fire.

13. Black Charcoal Lemonade

Aptly named, this one is a somehow icky but delicious twist on the classic Lemonade and is the perfect recipe for thrilling your guests at any party! Mind you; this drink is not for the faint of heart. We double up on vodka to make this drink a little deadly. Adding our Hangover Drink Bomb, made of activated charcoal and tangerine extract, is the best upgrade! Want to try it? Here’s the list of what you need:

6 oz. Sugar
6 oz. Water
1 tbsp. Activated black Charcoal
12 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
32 oz. Cold Water
16 oz. Vodka

In a small saucepan, combine sugar and water and bring to a boil. Remove from heat, stir in charcoal, and let cool completely. Combine lemon juice, cooled sugar syrup, and cold water in a pitcher. Serve over ice.
